Compliance with environmental, health and safety (EHS) programs
typically represents a minimally acceptable standard for most
companies. The benefits of going beyond the minimum and reaping the
benefits of a structured systems approach are not always clearly
understood or easily accomplished. Several drivers play an important
role in certification programs; these may include parent company
influence, customer requirements and expectations, and the interest
of regulatory agencies or other interested non-governmental
organizations (NGOs).
ENVISION views compliance and systems efforts together; they go
hand-in-hand. ENVISION’s staff of ISO 14001 Certified Lead Auditors
support our clients with the implementation of environmental
management systems (EMS). Our approach starts with a structured
environmental, health and safety key performance business indicator
assessment. These are business metrics with performance indicators
linked to targets and goals. This approach benefits our clients in
two (2) ways; first, it demonstrates environmental impact reduction
appropriate to the nature and scale of the business and second, cost
reduction programs are put in place to sustain and drive these
efforts. Cost savings are usually identified by onsite assessment
and gap analysis activities and typically involve:
ENVISION EMS services are designed to meet a dual purpose;
reducing compliance issues and reducing costs. We have experience in
simplifying the issues and building a strategic, cost effective
program to measure and demonstrate continuous improved performance –
whether compliance or systems driven.
ENVISION understands that many companies are still undecided on the
benefits of ISO 14001 certification. To assist with this, ENVISION
provides the following ISO 14001 consultation services program:
Part 1 – Presentation and Gap Analysis
– Within Part 1 of the program, ENVISION will review the general
benefits a firm can hope to achieve by implementing ISO 14001 and
explain the standard, the process of certification, commonalities
with ISO 9001, and time and training needs. ENVISION will also
review our client’s activities, products or services and available
documentation, procedures and programs in order to perform a gap
analysis detailing current conformance to the ISO 14001:2004
Standard. This will be performed by ENVISION’s ISO 14001 Certified
Lead Auditor(s). Initiation of an onsite gap analysis is the single
most crucial step in understanding how to move forward in obtaining
ISO certification.
Part 2 – Report and Recommendations – ENVISION will
generate a report and recommendations from the gap analysis
conducted at our client’s location. The report will detail current
conformance to the ISO 14001:2004 Standard and identify what systems
are available to our client that could be used to assist in
implementation of the program. The gap analysis process allows our
client to understand the specific areas to concentrate resources and
the general time and effort necessary to get ready for a
certification audit. ENVISION has the ability to identify what
systems the business already has in place that meet the intent of
the standard and to what degree.
Part 3 – Additional ISO Consulting Services – Other
services ENVISION can provide include:
Following this course of action will provide a blueprint for our
client to implement their ISO 14001 program in the most
cost effective and timely manner.
