Radon Testing

Radon is a colorless, odorless, radioactive gas, produced naturally in the ground by normal decay of uranium and radium. Radon gas is present in varying amounts throughout the country. Studies indicate that the results of extended exposure to high levels of radon gas/radon progeny produce an increased risk of lung cancer. The USEPA recommends that the average radon exposure rate not exceed four (4) picoCuries per liter of air (pCi/l).

ENVISION provides radon measurement services for determining radon levels in residential or commercial/industrial settings as part of real estate transactions or for routine monitoring of radon mitigation systems to determine the effectiveness of a system in reducing radon levels below 4 pCi/l.

ENVISION’s staff includes New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) certified Radon Measurement Specialists (RMSs), who have demonstrated advanced knowledge of radon measurement techniques. The RMSs have the knowledge and experience for the selection, placement, operation and set-up of radon measurement devices to determine radon concentrations in buildings, to conduct diagnostic tests to determine the appropriate radon mitigation method(s), and for making recommendations on radon mitigation and for mitigation referral. The RMSs are certified by the NJDEP for measuring radon in buildings similar to single-family homes. These skills can also be applied to larger commercial buildings. The RMSs have agreed to abide by local radon mitigation laws as well as the US Radon Mitigation Standards. ENVISION’s RMSs have been involved in NJ’s radon measurement/mitigation programs since 1991.
